Hear from one of the brains behind Bosom Buddies Burlesque

As some of you may have already seen on my social media, I’m really excited to be launching a brand new venture - Bosom Buddies Burlesque!

This has been created with the gorgeous Camilla Cream. Some of you would have met and seen Camilla perform at the Miss Burlesque Tasmania 2019 Final. Which was super thrilling for me - but also something that, if I’m being honest, I was a bit nervous about. We didn’t really know each other and I hadn’t seen her perform before. So I think all I was focused on prior to the event was just the basic, run of the mill show running - getting the music, tech needs sorted and hoping that the performance would go smoothly.

I think the unexpected benefit that came out of the show was a fantastic working relationship and some really similar values and experiences that we shared.

6 months later, and we are super proud and pumped to be preparing for 2020 with our Bosom Buddies Burlesque show.

I thought my followers and friends would love to hear a bit more about the things that have run through Camilla’s mind as we get stuck into the show preparations. Enjoy!

Camilla’s expectations on building the Bosom Buddies Burlesque :

“I don't think I really set any expectations when I perform, I am really grateful for any opportunity to perform the art form that I love. It would be nice to expand my network and audience base, but that would be the icing on the cake, rather than an expectation. I would really like to build some strong connections with the performers in the Tassie scene.

I am really excited to work with you (Grace) as I think you and I share quite the same work ethic and passion for providing opportunity for performers to dance, learn from and connect with each other.”

(Grace- yes definitely agree that our work ethic and our interest on mentoring is really strong. I think we are both excited about this!)

A stronger connection between the two burlesque communities would be a great achievement. An ongoing link, even if it's not physical, between Melbourne and Tasmania so that the performers feel valued, respected and a sense of belonging to the Australian industry.

On coming up with Bosom Buddies Burlesque

“… seeing the passion in the performers from Tassie when having conversations about burlesque really sparked that thing in me where I wanted to provide more opportunities for them not just to perform, but to connect with other performers and learn from others they might not otherwise get the chance to.

I don't think it was something I had in mind until we discussed the burly scene over lunch when I was in Hobart… I think sharing our experiences and drive for performer connection sparked that interest in a collaboration and I was just lucky you were in the same mindset!”

On mentoring in burlesque

“I love to teach. It has been my day job for 12 years and the enjoyment I receive from seeing someone else reaching their full potential or understanding a concept due to my assistance and guidance is my favourite feeling (perhaps only second to performing on stage myself). I would love an ongoing role in performers' lives where I get to see them learn and grow in the live entertainment industry.”

On her goals for 2020

“Personally, I want to complete my Marketing and Communications course so I can begin my coaching business for producers and performers to get the most out of their promo and social media. I am really excited about merging the 3 things I love (teaching, performing and marketing) and helping others reach their goals.”

I’m super excited about the collaboration and on opening some ongoing doors for performers! I hope you really enjoyed hearing a bit more from Camilla about her process.
