How is our reigning Miss Burlesque Tasmania preparing for her next show?

I’ve been catching up with performers as we get into the lead up for Burlesque After Dark. As the last show for 2019 that I’m running, I’m so excited to have Shaan Valentine on stage. I just don’t think we could have celebrated highlights of 2019 without our regining Miss Burlesque Tasmania!

Shaan herself is preparing to bring her acts that helped her win Miss Burlesque Tasmania. She said to me that she’s “… so excited to be doing both of them together again! My “Fever” act was originally for the “A Decade Undressed” show last year, but it has undergone some changes since then and it’s now probably my favourite act to do. It feels very true to my style of burlesque, and really fun and flirty to perform.”

If you missed her performance at Miss Burlesque Tasmania, you might be suprised by her second act. As Shaan notes, it’s pretty different “…. My other act, “The Man”, I first debuted at Miss Burlesque Tasmania. I’ve tweaked it a little since then, so this will be the first time performing the new version for a Tassie audience! I’m excited to show everyone the changes I’ve made, and to bring a totally different energy to the stage! “

For both Shaan and our audience it’s been a little while between gigs, so I’m super happy to hear that she’s looking forward to getting on stage and bringing these acts back.

I was interested to hear from Shaan too about her highlights for the year and how she’s feeling post Miss Burlesque Tasmania. she said, “ … Winning Miss Burlesque Tasmania was such a huge moment, just a massive career highlight really! Getting to perform at the Grand Final in Perth with performers I’ve admired for ages was incredible, and something I still need to remind myself of quite often - it still all feels like a dream.

“…My first interstate performance (was) Perth for Miss Burlesque Australia! I met so many wonderful people, it’s really spurred me on to start planning more performances outside of Tassie, and possibly internationally too”

As someone who definitely shouts out the love for Shaan frequently, it’s also exciting to have her on stage again! Anyone that follows her on social media knows the challenges she has faced with her physical and mental health. Shaan told me that “….it’s no secret that my health has been a real rollercoaster this year. I had really high hopes for my surgery in September, but unfortunately I’ve had some post-op complications that will require another surgery in the not too distant future. This has taken a pretty big toll on my mental health, and it’s also meant that anything burlesque related has had to take a backseat for a while. I’m really looking forward to our last show of 2019 though - it will be the perfect pick-me-up and best way to end the year with a bang!”

Me too Shaan!
