Wrists ache from fan dancing? Try this....

Fan dancing is not only a beautiful art form but also a physically demanding one. The graceful movements and intricate hand gestures can put a lot of strain on your wrists, leaving them sore and tired.

It’s important when you are learning this style of burlesque that you still take care of your body! That's why I wanted to share some tips for stretching sore and tired wrists from fan dancing. These stretches will not only provide relief but also help prevent future injuries.

1. Wrist Circles:

Start by extending your arm forward and making a gentle fist. Slowly rotate your wrist in a circular motion, both clockwise and counterclockwise. This stretch helps to increase mobility and flexibility in your wrist joints.

2. Wrist Flexor Stretch:

Extend your arm forward with your palm facing up. Use your other hand to gently pull back on your fingers, stretching the muscles on the inside of your forearm. Hold this stretch for 15-30 seconds and repeat on the other side.

3. Wrist Extensor Stretch:

Extend your arm forward with your palm facing down. Use your other hand to gently pull back on your fingers, stretching the muscles on the outside of your forearm. Hold for 15-30 seconds and repeat on the other side.

4. Prayer Stretch:

Bring your palms together in front of your chest, fingers pointing upward. Slowly lower your hands towards your waist while keeping your palms pressed together. You should feel a stretch in your wrists and forearms. Hold for 15-30 seconds.

You can also do this holding your palms behind your head for an additional triceps stretch!

Remember to always listen to your body and never push yourself too far in these stretches. Start with gentle movements and gradually increase the intensity as your wrists become more flexible. It's also important to warm up your wrists before dancing by gently rotating them and flexing and extending your fingers.

In addition to these stretches, it's crucial to give your wrists time to rest and recover. If you're experiencing persistent pain or discomfort, it's always a good idea to chat with your GP just to make sure you don’t have any other issues.

Fan dancing is a beautiful and captivating art form that requires both skill and physical strength. By incorporating these wrist stretches into your routine, you can ensure that your wrists stay healthy and strong.

So, take care of your wrists, and keep dancing!
