Classic Burlesque Course: The Art of Tease

Are you ready to unleash your inner burlesque queen?

This 6 week classic burlesque course will see you learn the art of seduction through dance. This course is perfect for anyone who wants to explore their sensual side and gain confidence in their body.

With experienced instructor Grace Cherry you will learn the fundamentals of burlesque including techniques for movement, posing and more!

This isn't just ANY dance class. Burlesque is all about self-expression and having fun, so expect to let loose and embrace your playful side. You'll be encouraged to channel your inner diva and own the stage.

Whether you're a seasoned dancer or a beginner, this course is designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all.

For our August term we will be embracing our pre-Halloween spirit and merging classic burlesque moves with Sanderson Sisters inspired tease.

Wear and Bring:

  • Robe (dressing gown, kimono or similar) for striptease technique. Spares are available for loan.

  • Gym or yoga wear that you can move and bend in

  • Heels are optional (no anklebreakers please!)

Investment:

  • The Classic Burlesque Course is $150 per person for 6 weeks.

Outcomes:

  • Enrolment covers participation in the Burlesque Showcase on Saturday 5 December at Salamanca Arts Centre and Mini Meow Cabaret on Wednesday 30 September (this is optional)

Step into the spotlight and bring out your cabaret star in our 4 week Cabaret Chair Dance Course, inspired by the Fosse styled All that Jazz.

Over four fun and supportive weeks you’ll learn to use the chair as a dazzling prop, supporting cabaret style movement, musicality and Broadway flair

Whether you are completely new or looking to add some cabaret charm or chair skills to your existing performance skills, this course is for you. Expect dramatic poses, stage styled choreography and theatrical flair. Suited to:

  • Beginners and experienced alike

  • Burlesque and cabaret fans

  • Anyone wanting to build confidence through movement

  • Lovers of jazz, fishnets and a bit of razzle dazzle

No experience is needed to join in! Modifications are encouraged for all movements.

Outcomes:

  • A cabaret styled chair dancing routine set to “All that Jazz”

  • Techniques for posing and moving with a chair

  • Cabaret dance foundations and Fosse flair

  • The opportunity to perform at Mini Meow Cabaret on 29 September and the Burlesque Showcase on 5 December

Unfurl your wings and embrace your inner villain in this wickedly enchanting Silk Fan Dance course inspired by the dark glamour of Maleficent.

What to expect:

  • A sultry, high-drama routine full of attitude

  • Silk fan techniques tailored to storytelling and character play

  • Movements that are hypnotic and embody confidence

  • Space to unleash your inner femme fatale, villainess, or anti-hero to “Once Upon a Dream”

Parisian Plumes: Feather Fan Dance Course

A Moulin Rouge inspired feather fan burlesque course.

Step into a world of glamour and Paris cabaret fantasy in Parisian Plumes - a feather fan dance course inspired by the roman, spectacle and theatrical energy of Moulin Rouge,

Across the course students will explore:

  • Feather Fan dance technique

  • Key fan dance transitions

  • Stage presence

  • Burlesque styling

All of these elements will be incorporated into a show-stopping routine set to “Sparkling Diamonds” from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack.

This course is suitable for beginners trying fan dance for the first time through to more experienced students focused on performance outcomes - you will both strutt into to a sultry fan-tastic extravaganza.

Students are given the option of performing at the Work in Progress show Mini Meow Cabaret on Wednesday 30 September at Kickstart Arts and at the Burlesque Showcase on Saturday 5 December at Salamanca Arts Centre.

Wear /Bring:

  • Something comfortable you can move in

  • Heels (no anklebreakers)

  • Feather fans

Are you thinking of making a solo debut? Wanting to refine your burlesque routine?

Get the right guidance and support for your burlesque journey through this intimate mentoring opportunity.

The Act Development course is a mentoring opportunity design to take your act from an idea to the stage, or to help you make sure your solo packs a WOW factor!

Work with Grace Cherry across individual intensive sessions and shorter group events - all designed to help you take an act from concept right up to stage.

This course includes performance outcomes of a “Mini Meow Cabaret-Work in Progress” event in September 2026 at Kickstart Arts, New Town and a professional performances at Salamanca Arts Centre on 6 December 2026.

More than just a one off opportunity - this program helps you with the stepping stones to a longer term burlesque practice - whether as a hobby or as a profession.

  • x 1 group induction session online on Saturday 1 August 2026 at 4pm -5pm

  • Individual coaching sessions with a focus on developing key skills you need for a professional solo debut - from choreography and concept to costuming and making a visual impression.

  • Session dates for individual coaching to choose from are:

    • Sunday 9 or Sunday 23 August

    • Wednesday 16 or Wednesday 23 September

    • Saturday 31 October or Saturday 7 November

  • x 1 group rehearsal presentation session

    Plus when you enrol you will also get:

  • Access to a private Facebook group for ongoing Q&A and troubleshooting

Flex and Stretch (Strong backs and great posture)

Join Grace Cherry for a 75 minute flow designed to improve your back strength, lengthen your spine and reverse some of the impact of our sitting/texting and scrolling lives.

No experience is needed as this workshop will focus on simple, foundation moves and stretches.

The workshop will end with a brief relaxation so you leave feeling rested, refreshed and ready for the coming week.

Grace is a certified 200 hour YTT trainer (vinyasa/hatha) along with a wealth of dance and performing experience.

This is a pay what you can model so the workshop can be accessible to all.

Wear: Comfy clothing you can stretch and move in (gym or yoga gear). Light layers recommended.

Bring: Yoga mat. Cushion if you want extra support for knees or to use for relaxation.
