Reflecting on a solo debut - with Ash the Queen of SASS!

Starting a second intake of the Act Development Course, I think it was opportune to check in with our solo performers from our mid year Graduation Showcase.

When you put in a lot of hard work, it can be really easy to get the ‘glitter crash’ post show. Or depending on your vive you can get caught up in your own headspace.

It was great to hear from our own Ash the Queen of SASS and see what her thoughts were after the show.

“ It was everything I expected and so much more!! Being on stage and feeling the adrenalin, having fun with the audience and expressing myself made my soul and heart the happiest” , she reflected

I think it’s always interesting to see what you might do differently - or what you notice about yourself after you’ve taken some time to watch yourself back. Particularly if it’s a first time performance. As Ash noted,

“I felt my energy on stage really shone through and that audience were engaged and having a lot of fun.” , she said.

I was happy with my facial expressions and feedback from the audience and from my video was that the “Sass” came out which was one of the areas I was most worried about.

….I would like to extend the song and routine with the strip elements. The song was only 2.14 and upon reflection, I felt that there were elements that were rushed.”

I think overall it was a positive experience for Ash with her ready “to do it again in a heartbeat”.

A well deserved curtain call for all performers

I think the best thing about going through this process is you can start to think about your future opportunities - what you think your brand or stage persona will look like going forward. And of course all the choreography and song ideas seem to rush forward.

“..I loved performing in the group with my friends and being able to encourage, support and celebrate with them but also having the opportunity to do a solo act made me feel invigorated and proud to be me
